ERTH Power Receives Innovation Excellence Award

ERTH Power recognized by the Electricity Distributors Association and Independent Electricity System Operator for its Green Button® solution

ERTH staff members accept the Innovation Excellence award on stage at the EDA Annual Awards GalaIngersoll, ON – ERTH Power Corporation on Monday was recognized with the Innovation Excellence Award at the Electricity Distributors Association (EDA) annual awards gala in Toronto, Ontario. The award, sponsored by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), recognizes outstanding achievement in innovation by an EDA member company.

ERTH Power received the award in recognition of its Green Button solution, the ERTH GB Connector Powered by Savage Data Systems, which works to minimize the number of new applications and integrations required to deliver Green Button data to consumers.

ERTH Power partnered with its affiliate company, ERTH Corporation, and technology solution providers Savage Data Systems, NorthStar Utilities Solutions, and SilverBlaze to develop the joint Green Button solution. The objective was to launch a solution that would meet the regulatory requirements of the new Ontario Green Button initiative while leveraging ERTH’s existing systems and customer portal for a seamless, secure, and cost-effective implementation. In June 2022, ERTH Power became one of the first utilities in the province to certify to the new Ontario Green Button standard through the Green Button Alliance. Shortly after, in December 2022, ERTH Power also became one of the first Ontario utilities to connect to a third-party vendor for Green Button data sharing.

“This is a major accomplishment for the ERTH team, our municipal shareholders and the communities we serve,” said Chris White, President and CEO of ERTH Corporation. “Through the development and implementation of the ERTH GB Connector Powered by Savage Data Systems, ERTH Power is proud to help advance the Green Button initiative while supporting the Province’s commitment to give consumers more control over their energy bills.”

In addition to ERTH Power, 26 other Ontario utilities will be leveraging the ERTH GB Connector solution to deliver Green Button data to more than 650,000 end consumers across the province. Standardized Green Button data will enable consumers to leverage tools to analyze energy consumption, identify trends, and better manage energy use to help reduce their bills.
