New Electrical Service Connection

Before you begin

When building a new home or building on your property, you will need to submit a New Electrical Service Connection form, along with drawings. This information is required prior to site plan approval and any related job tenders or the commencement of any electrical construction.

Please submit a Request for New Electrical Service Connection form and attach drawings.

After submitting a new service connection request

After you submit an electrical service connection request, ERTH Power will:

  • Conduct a site visit as needed
  • Provide you with a layout for the new service connection
  • Advise you of any charges that may be required for the new connection
  • Provide 5 working days notice to coordinate requests

If you have any questions about a new electrical service connection, please contact us at (519) 485-1820 Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm.

Modifying or Upgrading an Existing Electrical Service

When planning to repair, upgrade or replace the electrical wiring in your home or business, an electrical inspection permit must be obtained from the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA). Alterations such as the relocation of an electrical meter base from one location to another or a change from overhead wiring to underground wiring may mean the details of your electrical service by ERTH Power will need to change.

Before you begin

Before service upgrades begin, you or your electrical contractor must contact ERTH Power to inform us of any possible changes to your service. In addition to contacting ERTH Power, your electrical contractor is responsible for contacting the ESA for a certified inspection to ensure electrical safety for your family and compliance with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.

For electrical service upgrades or modifications, please submit an Electrical Service Connection Request form.

After submitting an electrical service upgrade request

If changes to your service are necessary, ERTH Power will:

  • Provide you with a layout for the new service upgrade
  • Advise you of any charges that may be required for the work we have performed
  • Coordinate the isolation and de-energization of the service to your business
  • Provide 5 working days’ notice to coordinate requests

We will reconnect your electrical service only after your ESA-approved inspection has been completed on the electrical installations inside your home or business and out to the demarcation point. The ESA will issue a connection authorization to ERTH Power, permitting the reconnection of power.

If you have any questions about whether or not a change to your service is necessary, please contact us at (519) 485-1820 Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm.

Subdivision Electrical Services and Design

When developing a new subdivision within the ERTH Power service territory, developers must submit a request for Subdivision Electrical Services and Design, along with surveys and drawings. This information is required prior to site plan approval.

ERTH Power’s engineering and planning department will provide additional information and next steps upon review of the request submission.

Non-Residential Electric Vehicle Charging Connection

This section outlines the Electric Vehicle Charging Connection Process and Procedures for non-residential customers.

Preliminary Consultation (Step 1)

Customers may choose to request a preliminary consultation by completing an EV Preliminary Consultation Information Request (EVPCIR) form and submitting it to ERTH Power. A preliminary consultation is an optional step for customers, who may instead choose to proceed directly to a connection request. The purpose of the preliminary consultation is to provide high-level connection feasibility information to a customer who has uncertainties regarding site selection for the EVSE, or those who are unsure about committing to EVSE installations. If a customer has already decided on a specific location for the EVSE, the preliminary consultation may provide limited benefits and requesting a preliminary consultation may extend the overall connection process.

To initiate a preliminary consultation, please fill out the EV Preliminary Consultation Information Request (EVPCIR) form and email the completed form to engineering@erthpower.com.

Connection Request (Step 2)

If a customer wishes to connect an EVSE to ERTH Power’s distribution system, they must complete and submit a Connection Request form, along with requested information. Once received, ERTH Power’s engineering team will review and respond within 15 calendar days confirming if the Connection Request submission is sufficient or if additional information is required.

Once the Connection Request submission is complete ERTH Power will provide an Offer to Connect letter to the customer within 45 calendar days of receipt of the completed Connection Request submission.
